I've spent decades working inside insurance agency operations — looking at how work is supposed to be done, how it is actually being done, and what the agency record shows happened.
In 1997, I founded my consulting business and began working directly with agencies on procedures, workflows, documentation, management systems, and reporting. Much of that work has involved AMS360, but the operational problems I see aren't unique to one system.
I'm a CIC and AAI, a past President of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Maryland, and I've worked with agency owners and staff across the country. My approach is practical: start with the procedure, look at what actually happens, then look at the record.
Can someone reconstruct what happened? Are procedures being followed? Is follow-up being completed? Does management have enough information to know?

Is this a course?
No. The Intelligent Insurance Agency provides operational reviews, assessments, and diagnostic tools for insurance agency owners. Each is designed to answer a specific question about your procedures, documentation, follow-through, or management practices. You can start with the free Agency Reconstructability Check or choose the review that fits what you need to understand.
Do I need to be an expert in my AMS?
No. You do not need advanced technical knowledge of your agency management system. The focus is on how work is handled, documented, followed up, and reviewed in your agency — not on your ability to configure or troubleshoot the system.
What if I already know my agency has problems?
That is often the best time to use one of these reviews. Knowing something is wrong and knowing exactly where the breakdown is are two different things. The goal is to narrow the problem down — procedures, documentation, follow-through, review, or system setup — so you can decide what needs a closer look first.
How is this different from reviewing reports?
Reports show you the results of what has been entered into your AMS. My reviews look at what happens before the report — the procedures, documentation, follow-up, and review practices behind the data. A report may tell you what the system contains. It does not necessarily tell you whether the work was handled the way the agency intended or whether the record tells the whole story.
What's the difference between the Agency Reconstructability Check, Agency Reality Check, and Documentation Quality Review?
The Agency Reconstructability Check is a free diagnostic that looks at whether someone can reconstruct what happened from your AMS activity records.
The Agency Reality Check is a $27 self-audit that looks at whether your agency has clear procedures, whether they are consistently followed, and whether the work is reviewed to know.
The Documentation Quality Review is a deeper review of your actual Activity records to determine whether they contain enough information to understand the work performed, the decisions made, and the follow-through.
Each answers a different question. You do not have to complete all three.
What happens after I finish?
